A day around Père Lachaise Cemetery
Categories : Lifestyle
Paris’s largest green space within the city limits and the world’s most visited cemetery, Père-Lachaise Cemetery is located about a fifteen-minute walk from Hôtel Fabric. Around its paths, the neighbourhood has enough to fill a whole day. We have selected a few places for you to enjoy a stroll among famous names and nature, a coffee, a designer boutique, a bistro lunch and an immersive exhibition.
Follow the guide and speak to our reception team for more information!
Père-Lachaise: famous figures and nature
With some 70,000 graves, the cemetery is home to the tombs of great figures who have shaped history, including Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Édith Piaf, Molière and Jean de La Fontaine. But it is also a biodiversity reservoir: around 4,000 trees and nearly 140 species of wild animals have made their home here.
Good to know: the cemetery is vast and the paths quickly start to look alike, so identify the places you wish to visit before entering. And if you are drawn to nature, the LPO Île-de-France, which we support as part of our environmental commitment, organises a monthly “Wildlife and Flora of the Cemetery” observation outing: free, no booking required, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Meet at the main entrance with a pair of binoculars. Check their calendar for this month’s date.
Main entrance: Boulevard de Ménilmontant, 75020. A 15-minute walk from hôtel FABRIC.
Joy x Beck: the mint-green café on Rue de la Bidassoa
Exit on the Gambetta side and head to Joy x Beck, a mint-coloured corner café run by Joy, daughter of pastry chef Linda Lam, and her partner Beck. Here, Southeast Asian heritage is served over the counter: freshly roasted Laotian coffee and pandan pastries, such as fruit sando-style chiffon cake or laminated brioche.
Good to know: the brioches are made in two batches a day, so it is best to come early. Open on Sundays, closed on Mondays.
10 Rue de la Bidassoa, 75020. A 25-minute walk from hôtel FABRIC.
Authentique Parenthèse: a selection of designers, just a few steps away
A little further along the same street, Authentique Parenthèse brings together a selection of designers and slow-fashion pieces for her and him: ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, accessories and homeware, with brands such as Paraboot, Norse Projects and Universal Works.
Good to know: opening hours vary depending on the day (on Wednesdays, the shop only opens from 4.30 p.m.).
50 Rue de la Bidassoa, 75020. A 25-minute walk from hôtel FABRIC.
Patine Bistrot: lunch (or dinner) on Rue de la Vacquerie
Head to the 11th arrondissement for Patine, Emma Rajaud and Julien Chevallier’s first venture. A bistro open from Tuesday to Saturday, for lunch and dinner, perfect for a break between visits.
Good to know: book online—it’s the easiest option.
16 Rue de la Vacquerie, 75011. A 14-minute walk from hôtel FABRIC.
Atelier des Lumières: immersive art
End the day at the Atelier des Lumières, housed in a former 19th-century foundry. More than 140 video projectors and spatialised sound display immersive digital exhibitions, continuously projected with no set screening times.
Good to know: the programme changes regularly, so check the website to find out about the current exhibition.
38 Rue Saint-Maur, 75011. An 8-minute walk from hôtel FABRIC.
