Biodiversity in Paris, at the heart of our commitment at FABRIC
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, we are highlighting a topic that is especially close to our hearts at Hotel FABRIC: the richness of the living world that surrounds us, right in the heart of Paris.
A dense and surprisingly living city
When people think of Paris, they often picture its fast pace, its architecture, and its lights. Yet the capital is home to a discreet but very real biodiversity: more than 3,400 wild species have been recorded.
Between the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, over 500 parks and gardens, nearly 100,000 street trees, as well as the Seine and its canals, Paris forms a true urban ecosystem. These spaces act as essential ecological corridors where wildlife, plants, and fungi coexist and move freely on a daily basis.
Biodiversity, in the broad sense, refers to all living beings: species, their interactions, and the environments in which they evolve. In Paris, it is expressed through a mosaic of urban habitats—riverbanks, wastelands, gardens, and wetlands—that create a vital green and blue network essential to the city’s ecological balance.
A strengthened commitment with the Green Key label
Always sensitive to these issues, we are now further strengthening our commitment to environmental protection, a momentum reinforced by obtaining the Green Key label, which helps structure and highlight our actions.
We aim, at our own scale, to contribute to a better understanding of urban nature and to help promote its value.
An activity dedicated to biodiversity
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, we will be offering an activity for both our guests and hotel team. The goal is to raise awareness in a fun and accessible way about urban biodiversity, through a quiz-style format and informal exchanges.
A simple, friendly moment, and above all, an opportunity to see Paris not just as a backdrop, but as a living ecosystem.
Better understanding, better observation
Because curiosity is often the first step toward preservation, we also provide a selection of books dedicated to Parisian parks, gardens, and natural spaces.
These resources help explore the diversity of species living in the city, as well as the many places where nature can be discovered just steps away from the hotel. An invitation to look up, slow down, and rediscover the richness of life that sometimes hides behind a hedge or just around the corner of a walk.
At Hotel FABRIC, we believe hospitality can also be a way of opening a window onto the living world. And in Paris, that world is far richer than it may seem : you just need to take a moment to pause and look.
