After an exceptional month of sporting events in the City of Light, Paris is preparing to host the Paralympic Games for the first time, starting on August 28. This event will be a historic first for the French capital, as the Paralympic Games did not yet exist during the last Olympics held here in 1924.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for August 28, will take place in the heart of Paris, at the iconic Place de la Concorde. A magical moment is anticipated by Parisians and tourists alike: the Olympic cauldron will be relit, majestically soaring at sunset from the Jardin des Tuileries.
Once the games begin, we will be thrilled by the performances of athletes from around the world, who will compete to defend their colors and strive to win a medal adorned with a fragment of the Eiffel Tower.
So, what sports will we have the pleasure of following starting Thursday, August 29, 2024? On the agenda: 22 sports disciplines where approximately 4,350 athletes will push their limits. Find the complete schedule on the official Games website!
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will not only be a sporting event but also a celebration of perseverance, inclusion, and human excellence. By carrying the torch of self-improvement, these games will remind everyone that the true Olympic spirit lies in the strength to overcome obstacles, whatever they may be. Paris is set to experience a historic moment that will resonate far beyond its borders.
Let’s be ready to witness it!
